AMNESTY EXPRESSES SERIOUS CONCERN over two Ahwazi Arab political prisoners on death row

Amnesty International organization has today voiced serious concern over two Ahwazi Arab political Prisoners whose death sentences have been confirmed recently by the Supreme Court in Tehran.
The amnesty international organization in its urgent action statement on 9 May 2014, “urged the Iranian authorities not to execute Ali Chebieshat and Sayed Khaled Mousawi, to ensure their death sentences are overturned and to grant them retrials in proceedings which comply with fair trial standards, without recourse to the death penalty; Urging them to disclose the men’s whereabouts immediately, and ensure that they are protected from torture and other ill-treatment and are allowed regular contact with their lawyers and families;
Urging them to investigate allegations of torture, hold those responsible to account and disregard as evidence in court “confessions” that may have been obtained under torture or other ill-treatment”.
Ali Chebieshat and Sayed Khaled Mousawi who were sentenced to death on 9 September 2013 by Branch Two of the Revolutionary Court in Ahwaz City on the charges of “enmity against God” (moharebeh) , acting against the Iran national security ,propaganda against the Islamic republic of Iran, and corruption on earth and other vague and baseless accusations of terrorism offences- related.
According to Amnesty International, the men were denied access to lawyers and their families for the first several months of their detention and are believed to have been tortured or otherwise ill-treated.
